Employment for Disabled Persons.

The government recently introduced e-employment scheme. E-rozgar program by Punjab government is set to impart freelancers with the necessary skills to succeed via IT training. This program aims to train ten thousand young individuals to earn money by working online from home using the internet. Disabled people have not been benefited from any scheme not before and not now. Due to the government’s selfishness, disabled people age increased. And they remain unemployed because of these double standards. What steps is taking the government for the overage disabled person.

What is advantage to celebrating a disability day every year in the month of December 3rd and it unambiguous reminder of the tough life that disabled people live in Pakistan, mainly because of the government’s neglect in doing anything to help them? On the day itself, we see top government representatives make all kinds of promises at seminars and conferences, pledging that they will make policies to improve the lives of special people on the other hand after the day passes; everything goes back to what it was. Many persons with disabilities have been seeking suitable jobs for the last several years but sadly, in most cases, their efforts are wasted. Instead of making promises that it cannot keep, I would extremely request the government to do something concrete and take serious steps for the plight of disabled people.

More than half of the non-working adults with disabilities who were studied encountered difficulties. The trend extends well to industrialized nations and to the developing world, where the problem is more severe. But, despite international awareness that people with disabilities have the right to work – an entitlement enshrined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities – even the most advanced economies can’t seem to find a way to successfully integrate them into the workplace.

The most frequently cited reasons for being discouraged from looking for work were:

  • No appropriate jobs available
  • Family responsibilities
  • Lack of transportation
  • No appropriate information about jobs
  • Inadequate training
  • Fear of losing health insurance or Medicaid
  • Discouraged from working by family and friends

I strongly request and Appeal to the government of Pakistan. Please increase the maximum age to 50 years only for Person with Disabilities. We all Disabled Person will be very thankful and will be highly appreciated.
