PhD Students in English and Didactics University of Technology Sweden:

Three positions for PhD candidates are currently open at the Department of Arts, Communication and Education. Applications in all areas of English studies are welcomed, but applications within the fields of applied linguistics, contemporary literatures in English and children’s literature will be valuable. 

Subject Description:

The research subject of English with a specialization in education and learning consist of a all-inclusive summary of the subject area with an stress on its theoretical and practical application. Its research focal point is interdisciplinary in the sense that it includes cultural, literary and linguistic perspectives on teaching and learning in addition to perspectives departing from power relationships for example gender, ethnicity, class and so on. Issues related to language teaching and learning are studied, in addition to language use in a broad perspective, outlook, and the cultural and social function of language. Candidate Requirements:

In keeping, in accordance with Higher Education Ordinance 7 para 39 § candidates should demonstrate that their preceding studies have prepared them for research. The successful applicants will hold an MA degree or equivalent which incorporates at 120 ects in English with a specialization in literature, linguistics or education. Applications are also welcomed from graduates with backgrounds in comparative literature and gender studies provided that their final degree work was completed in English. Excellent oral and written English expertises are necessary and a background in teacher training is considered a merit. 

The position requires the successful candidates to be based at the Department of Arts, Communication and Education, Luleå University of Technology, Sweden. The successful applicants will take part in the daily life of the department and may be asked to teach (max 20% of their contract).
