PH.D Position – Searching Information by Linked Open Data Switzerland:

The Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research WSL is a part of the ETH domain. Just about 500 people work on the sustainable use and protection of the environment and on the handling of natural risks. The GIS group of the Research Unit Forest Resources and Management develops and implements data models and methods for effective storage and retrieval of multilingual nature protection data and is offering a PH.D. Position – Searching Information by Linked Open Data. 

Within the GIS group you will examine a ground-breaking approach to searching place-related information by Linked Open Data (LOD) and investigate its implementation as a software artifact. You will publish your results in an international scientific context and be enrolled in a doctoral program at the University of Zurich. You have a Master degree in computer science, geoinformatics, natural language processing or a related domain. You are familiar with symbolic logic, soft computing and with software development (Java, J2EE). An independent scientific work style is required and experience, know-how in relational databases and GIS as well as basic skills in German are a valuable.
