The division for Molecular and Condensed Matter Physics, at the Department of Physics and Astronomy publicized a Ph. D. position focusing on structural transitions in matter due to ultrafast Xray pulses, starting December 2012. You will be using both experimental and theoretical methods to explore dynamics in matter induced by tremendously intense (on the order of 1013 pho- tons per pulse) femtosecond (10-15 second) pulses generated by Xray Free- electron Laser sources, for example LCLS in Stanford and FLASH in Hamburg. The foremost center of attention will be on biological samples, such as nano-sized protein crystals or other sub micron samples. Your work will partly be funding by the Swedish Foundation for Strategical Research, through the Ingvar Carlsson Award, project number ICA-100090 click here.
For further information about the project visit . The research environment is highly international, collaborating mostly with the Center for Free-electron Laser Science in Hamburg, Laboratory of Molecular Biophysics at Uppsala University and LCLS in Stanford, USA. click here.
Please send your application together with a letter describing yourself, your background and research interests. Include a CV, copies of relevant degrees, master thesis (or a manuscript if you have not yet finished) and other relevant documents. We encourage and give confidence to you to supply references and letters of recommendation, if possible. Skills in written and spoken English are vital, and the aptitude to work both as part of a group and independently is advantageous.
You will spend most of your time doing research, but teaching and administrative work up to 20% might be included in your contract.
- Your salary is regulated by the Department of Physics and Astronomy and based on agreements between the university and the unions.
